Felipe Mato began training in Spanish dance, classical ballet and flamenco as a child. He studied in the Seville Conservatory of Dance and theMatilde Coral School. Without neglecting his ongoing training, he began dancing profesionally at the age of fourteen, and has since performed all over Europe. He has competed in international competitions, such as the Young Performers competition at the Seville Flamenco Biennial in 2002 and the National Competition in Cordoba, where he reached the finals. He has also been for several years a permanent member of the teaching staff at the Seville flamenco school Taller Flamenco.

Among his performances is his outstanding appearance in the Mario Maya Company, with ‘De Cádiz a Cuba’(From Cadiz to Cuba), which was premiered at the Seville Flamenco Biennial in 1998. He also took a leading role in ‘Inmigracion’ by Angeles Gabaldon, premiered at the Central Theatre in Seville in November 2003. Together with artists such as the guitarist Daniel Mendez, the Moroccan musician Jallal Chekkara, the percussionist Antonio Montiel and the dancer Nicolia Morris he formed the mestizo flamenco group 'Harmattan' in 2004.
